Bound Tree Medical has introduced its first ever Scholarship Award, the Legacy Scholarship Program, aimed at promoting the professional status of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). This program will award $50,000 in scholarships to children of EMTs and Firefighters interested in becoming EMTs, or furthering their certification by becoming Paramedics. The scholarship awards will be available nationwide for those who fit the eligibility criteria and are interested in pursuing a state approved certification program.

- What are the requirements for the scholarship program?
- You must be the son or daughter of a career or volunteer firefighter or EMT, who is on active duty, retired or deceased.
- You must plan to attend a state approved EMT Basic certification program or increase your level of certification through an EMT Intermediate or Paramedic certification program.
- Do you have to meet both requirements to apply?
- What if I have a caregiver, not a parent, who is or was an EMT, paramedic or firefighter?
- You can apply for the program if your primary caregiver meets the criteria in Question 1. A primary caregiver is defined as someone who provided for you and who you lived with for some period of time, i.e. stepparent, grandparent, neighbor, foster and/or adopted parent.
- What if my grandparent was a firefighter or paramedic? Can I apply?
- Only if your grandparent was your primary caregiver at some point.
- How does one apply for the scholarship program?
- Fill out an application. Download now: Legacy Scholarship Application.
- Provide a single page essay on why you are interested in EMS.
- Provide two recommendation letters from non-relatives including recommender's contact information and relation to applicant.
- How much money am I eligible to apply for?
- Basic program – 50% of program fees up to $500.
- EMT Intermediate or Paramedic – 50% of program fees up to $2,500.
- Awards will be based on the cost of your program.
- How is the scholarship award given?
- Awards will be made payable to an educational entity in your name. If you do not complete the program, you will be expected to return the award so that it may be allocated to another applicant.
- What if I am already in an EMS program but could use the funding for the continuation or completion of the program?
- Yes, you are still eligible to apply; as long as you meet the criteria described in Question #1.
- For which programs will the scholarship be awarded?
- A state approved EMT Basic, Intermediate or Paramedic program.
- Is there an age limit for the scholarship program?
- No. Since awards are made payable to the institution of choice, an applicant will have to have been accepted into a program in order to receive the award.
- If I am not planning to attend a program for another year, can I still apply?
- You can apply during the year you are planning to attend a program. Scholarship cycles run every six months.
- If I am in an EMT refresher course, am I eligible for the scholarship award?
- No. You must be taking the EMT Basic, Intermediate or Paramedic program.
- If I am already an EMT but would like to become a paramedic, am I eligible to apply?
- Yes, you are still eligible to apply; as long as you meet the criteria described in Question #1.
